At Coulisse, we constantly challenge ourselves to improve and innovate. With the Balanced Roller, we set out to create a seamless, intuitive, and child-safe roller shade system that eliminates the frustrations of traditional spring rollers. Our spring roller system removed chains and cords, but users still had to tug the bottom bar to release a locking mechanism, which then triggered the spring to retract the shade. This method worked but lacked the effortless, precise control that we wanted to achieve.
Our goal was to develop a fully balanced system where the shade would stay exactly where the user positioned it—no locking, just smooth movement. Instead of relying on external force, like chains or springs with locking mechanisms, the Balanced Roller had to feel weightless, giving the user total control with a single motion. The result is a child-safe roller shade system that is not only functional but also redefines the experience of smooth and effortless control.
Creating a system that delivers smooth, consistent movement at every position was an engineering challenge. Traditional spring rollers require different levels of force depending on their position, often leading to inconsistent operation. We needed a system that felt identical at any position—easy and intuitive every time.
To achieve this, our engineers developed a precision-calibrated spring system, where each Balanced Roller is paired with a custom-calculated spring, determined by a proprietary algorithm. This ensures that the shade’s weight and the spring’s tension are perfectly balanced, creating a floating effect. The user only needs to gently guide the shade to the perfect position, and it stays there—no force, no locking, just seamless precision.
We also spent significant time refining the internal mechanics, eliminating jerky movements and sudden accelerations to create a system that moves instinctively and naturally. The result? A roller shade that feels weightless, offering a level of precision and ease unlike anything else on the market.

Every detail—from the control disks to the bottom bar—was crafted with both form and function in mind.
