The missing piece

Coulisse has a motorized solution for every interior blind type. Roller. Roman. Venetian. Vertical. Honeycomb. Even Pleated. The Motionblinds range covered them all — except one. Curtains. That gap wasn't accidental. Curtains belong to a different world. A different trade, different fabric logic, different installation culture. Until 2022, Coulisse had no curtain system of its own — not one engineered around Motionblinds motors, not one built to its own design standards. That had to change.

The choice to go motorization-first was deliberate. In a market where manual rails are the default and motors are often an add-on, Coulisse designed the system the other way around. The motor came first. Everything else followed. The result is a curtain system that connects naturally to the Motionblinds ecosystem — and completes the range for the fabricators and dealers who work with it.

Designed to disappear

The curtain market is crowded. Motorized options exist. The engineering challenge wasn't just building something that worked, it was building something worth choosing. The answer comes from Coulisse's core design philosophy. The aluminum rail is available in black and white. Brackets sit behind the track, invisible from the front. Asymmetrical end caps move the motor to the back of the system, keeping the visible face clean and uninterrupted. The end caps also hold the fabric perfectly straight at the edges — a finishing detail that makes a noticeable difference in the final installation, and one that competitors often overlook.

Getting there required solving one unexpected problem. Early testing showed that the coating on the aluminum rail directly affects the efficiency of every running component. Finding the right formulation with the correct coverage and durability was crucial to the whole system performing as it should. The finished rail looks refined and runs smoothly, both matter equally.

One rail, three fabric types

Pleat, wave, and — for the Americas market — ripple fold. Three fabric styles. One rail. Pleat curtains are pinched at the top and hung from hooks. Wave uses evenly spaced gliders to create a continuous, flowing ripple. Ripple fold, popular in North America, achieves a similar result through a dedicated runner system — available in three wavelengths (48mm, 54mm, and 60mm) so fabricators can dial in the exact fullness their customers want. The engineering that makes this possible is the master carrier. Most competitors use a separate carrier for each fabric type. Coulisse took a different approach: one master carrier handles pleat, with a modular wave add-on that attaches directly onto it. The result is closer to a universal solution but achieved through a simple addition rather than an entirely different component.

The same thinking runs through the whole system. A split connector lets the rail ship in sections and join invisibly on site. Gliders can be added or removed after installation. Every component decision was made with the people who build and fit this system in mind.

The assembly tool that changes everything

Every Coulisse curtain rail runs on a drive belt, a transmission connecting the motor to the master carrier. That belt must be cut to an exact length. A deviation of even a few millimeters affects how the system performs. The standard industry method is to measure the length of the belt. It works, but it is slow, and it leaves room for error. A miscount means starting again. In a production environment, that costs time. At the installation stage, it can mean a system that simply doesn't run as it should.

Coulisse designed a dedicated assembly tool that removes the uncertainty entirely. Place the belt, set the length, and cut. The result is exact every time — no measuring, no second-guessing.

Since launch, assembly issues related to belt length have been effectively zero. The tool is available separately — a one-time investment that works across every configuration in the Coulisse curtain range. It reflects something important about how this system was engineered: not just to perform well in the window, but to go together cleanly on the workbench, every time.

From workshop to window

Development began in June 2022. Molds opened in October. First samples arrived just before Christmas. Parts were approved for production in May 2023. One year from start to market — quick, given the scope of what was built. Duration tests measured wear across every moving component. Torque tests set the specifications fabricators rely on. Maximum load configurations — 35 kilograms at full width — were tested alongside real-world interference scenarios.

"During a duration test, the whole blind suddenly broke free with a lot of noise. We checked the footage and disassembled everything. It turned out to be too few prototyped plastic brackets. We learned from it and moved on."

The system that reached the market passed every test. It supports tracks up to 10 meters and fabrics up to 25 kilograms, for residential and high-end commercial use.
